2-3pm: Presentation: Decolonizing Ohlone Cuisine and Fostering Holistic Community Wellness ($10 at the door; free for PHS members)


Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino reconnect with traditional Ohlone foods and ways that these foods can be made accessible for daily life. They will speak about the immense benefits these foods have—from deeper cultural understanding to stronger health. Vincent and Louis have learned to understand the traditional uses of the Native plants of their Ohlone homelands.  Weaving together language with traditional foods empowers them to look at these old foods through an indigenous lens—to understand that these are the same foods their people have always eaten. In this talk, Vincent and Louis will describe their personal journey and their efforts to help people across California gain an understanding how the role traditional foods play in the resurgence of traditional California Indian ways.
