2011 report: As of August 2011, all of the major undercarriage work is complete except for the couplers and trucks, the subfloor is in, the side wall framing done and most of the exterior tongue and groove has been replaced. Next steps include completion and trim of the exterior lower siding sections, fabricating new window frames and re-installation of the windows (some will have to be rebuilt).
2009 report: The heavy-duty work on the under carriage is nearly complete. This involved replacing I-beam ends that had rusted away, and replacing most of the wood beams that are bolted to the I-beams to form the base for the coachwork.
Oak framing for the right side has been fabricated and is in place except for replacing the long, threaded compression rods that tie the frame together. We have purchased the lumber for the left side framing and are in the process of cutting them to dimension. As the good weather returns, we plan to complete the siding frame- work and replace the exterior siding tongue and groove sections.
We will be participating in a railroad show at the Walnut Creek Elks Club in October 2009 – more details to follow.

As part of California’s coastal history, this rail car brings the City of Pacifica a tangible link to its history. Car #1409 was the last purchased by the Ocean Shore Railroad, and ran on rails from San Francisco through Daly City to the coastal towns of Pacifica, Montara, Moss Beach, Princeton, Granada, Half Moon Bay and beyond with connections to Santa Cruz.
One hundred years ago, the Ocean Shore Railroad ran through our scenic coastal community, meandering along cliff sides and past lush farm fields, carrying city dwellers, who for the first time were able to visit our beautiful coastal area. Many of these visitors liked the area so well that they became the first settlers, buying land offered by the Ocean Shore Railroad realtors.
Two of its stations are still visible, the Vallemar Station at Highway 1 and the Tobin Station on Pedro Point at the corner of Danman Avenue and Shelter Cove Road.
