Pacifica celebrated it's 50th year in 2007.

Statue of Don Gasper De Portola silhouetted before a Pacifica sunset.   This statue was given to California by its sister state, Catalonia in 1988 and was placed on Highway 1 on Crespi Drive in Pacifica.  This is this near the base of hill from which first recorded sighting by a European of San Francisco Bay occurred in 1769 by the expedition.

The Discovery, on November 4, 1769 was from today's scenic Pacifica, sister city of historic Balaguer, Spain, Portola's Birthplace.

Point San Pedro Guards the south entrance to the Golden Gate.  It was on ancient maps and the sea explorer Cabrillo probably saw it in 1542.  Portola camped nearby in 1769 (A), before his expedition discovered San Francisco Bay from a 1200 foot mountain ridge (x) in today's scenic Pacifica.  Beyond - San Francisco airport, San Bruno, Millbrae, Burlingame and San Mateo.

Little Brown Church 1908 looking Northwest from the intersection of Francisco Boulevard and Salada Avenue.  Reverend Herschel Harkins conducted ecumenical services there for many years.  The only church in Pacifica at the time of the photo, the building later housed the Pacifica Police Department.
